Spring Clean Up
Spring is just around the corner here in the Finger Lakes!
It’s the right time for Spring cleaning, Spring yard clean up, and especially Spring Tree Care.
-
The wear and tear of Winter snow and ice, combined with the heavy gusting winds our lake region and surrounding Rochester areas experience, particularly in seasonal change, can wreak havoc on trees. Broken and dead branches and debris from deceased trees can be unsightly and, at times, worrisome.
-
Before bud break is an ideal time to trim out damaged branches and prune to shape many tree species.
The overall health of a tree is always increased when the structure of the tree is free of debris, allowing more airflow and sunlight into the canopy.
-
Standing dead trees.
Standing dead trees are, unfortunately, particularly prominent in our area due to the Emerald Ash Borer (Agrilus planipennis or EAB) decimation of our Ash (Fraxinus) trees. While preventative treatments are available and meet with fair success (send us a note if you’d like to learn more on treatment), many of these established and celebrated trees are beyond saving. Completing removal of deceased trees as part of Spring clean-up gives a head start to a more enjoyable and beautiful Summer.
-
Moths, flies, and other pests.
In our world of trees, the approaching Spring weather also makes us think of insect and pest problems. Spongy (formerly known as Gypsy) Moths (Lymantria dispar), Spotted Lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula), and more, awaken, mobilize, and begin eating away. We have various spray and injection treatments at the ready for use in early Spring. And our go-to Gypsy Moth spray is safe for all pollinators, people, and pets – in fact, it is certified by the USDA National Organic Program, meaning it is so safe organic farmers use it as well to help control caterpillar and other problems. Interested in Spring preventative spraying – please send us a note.
